Wellness Wednesday: The Smoothie I Drink Every Morning

Hi, everyone! Thank you all for the positive feedback for the first Wellness Wednesday post lask week. I’m really excited about this series and have some great posts planned!

This week I wanted to share with you the smoothie I drink each morning. Since I don’t eat meat (with the exception of fish), I really have to work to get my protein in. One of my favorite ways to do that is at the start of each day with a breakfast smoothie. (I used to work at the cafeteria in Lifetime Fitness in high school, so smoothies are kinda my thing. ;))

I love that this smoothie is low sugar, yet tastes like a treat! It’s also super simple to throw together—I normally am in and out of the kitchen in 5 minutes.

1 banana (I prefer to freeze my bananas so I don’t have to use ice)

1 generous handful of organic spinach

1 cup of almond milk (I am trying to go to unsweetened, but right now, I use the sweetened version)

1 scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen Protein Peptides (one scoop has 9 grams of protein and only 35 calories)

1 scoop of Norcal Organic Peanut Butter Protein

(I tend to choose smaller bananas since they can be high in sugar. A small banana is only 90-100 calories, but still gives you the nutrition you need.)

This smoothie is so easy to make. Simply throw all the ingredients into your blender (we use the Ninja Pro Blender and love it!) and voila! You’ve got yourself a nutrient-dense, low sugar breakfast smoothie.

I will occasionally substitute my banana for an avocado to cut down on sugar and add some healthy fats.

Wellness Wednesday: 5 Cruelty-Free Products I’m Currently Loving

If you follow me on social media, you’ve likely seen my three dogs. I’ve been an animal lover my entire life, but it hasn’t been until the past few years that I really pay attention to whether or not my products are cruelty free. These days there are so many incredible cruelty-free brands out there. I have been able to incorporate some of these brands into my daily skincare and beauty routine.

Mark bought this lip scrub for me as a Christmas gift this year and I have already used it so many times! (He’s even borrowed it from me.) You only use a pea-size amount so it lasts forever and your lips feel so soft afterward. It’s perfect year round, but especially for these colder months!

I have been using this overnight cream for almost a year and can’t get over how amazing it makes my skin feel. It is the perfect way to rejuvenate my skin throughout the night and it makes my skin feel so much more plump in the morning.

I use this radiance serum every day! I love that it’s formulated to exfoliate, dissolve and breakdown dead skin cells making my skin brighter and more radiant all day long! This daily treatment promotes cellular turnover so it addresses everything from photo-aging to acne to overall skin texture.

Y’ALL. I love this stuff! It is so easy to put on (simply rub the stick from your lip to your cheek!) and it adds the perfect dewy glow. I usually blend the color in with my fingers. For a more natural look I will wear this alone or over my blush for a more dramatic feel.

This has been one the biggest changes to my daily routine and I honestly can’t imagine not using it now! I have fallen in love with all things Juice Beauty ever since trying it about a year ago, but this illuminating primer goes under my makeup every day now. It adds such a youthful glow to my skin and makes me look so much more awake and vibrant! It is the last part of my morning skincare regimen, going on right before my makeup.

Introducing A New Series: Wellness Wednesdays

My goal for the blog in 2018 is simple: tell a story. I am a full-time copywriter, so storytelling is what I do. When I think about my favorite blogs to follow, they all have one thing in common: they tell a story. So I am going to do my best this year to pull back the curtain a bit. In assessing my blog over the past few months, I feel like I haven’t shared more than sale items and style tips. And while I still intend to do that, I want to share more with you.

Yesterday I polled you guys on Instagram stories asking if you’d like to see more healthy living tips like diet, exercise and clean products. I was so excited to get a resounding yes from you all. I don’t want to take away from my current content at all, but I feel like healthy living is a huge part of my life and my story, so I am going to start a weekly series called Wellness Wednesday.

What can you expect from this series?

I rarely share anything about my diet on the blog, but I have been a pescatarian for about eight months now. This means I eat a fully vegetarian diet with the exception of fish. Because of this, I am forced to find healthy ways to incorporate protein into my daily diet. I have always had a passion for nutrition, but this has definitely caused me to take an even deeper look at what I eat each day and I have honestly never felt better!

I actually work out 5 times a week. I’ve been a runner since I was 13 years old (I actually got into blogging with a running blog called That Running Girl several years ago) and have enjoyed finding ways to grow as a runner and fitness lover ever since. I am a self-admitted cardio fiend, but work hard to incorporate strength training into my routine. I am always trying new things (my most recent journey is BBG!) and will share some of my favorite workouts with you guys.

While this is admittedly still a work in progress, I have cleaned up the products that I used substantially over the past few years. This has taken a lot of research to find out what is in the products I grew up using and what I should be avoiding. It is amazing what you will find in things we use every day like deodorant, face wash, makeup, etc. As I discover and use new products, I will give you all an honest review (let’s be real, sometime all we care about is how well the makeup stays on!).

I think this series will be really fun for me and hopefully beneficial for you as well. Because healthy living is such a big part of my life, it only makes sense that I find a way to incorporate it into the blog! (I will, of course, stay in tune with the theme of my blog which is “accessibility,” because it’s important to me that everything I post is realistic for you guys to buy/try.)

If there is ever anything you want to see on a Wellness Wednesday post, let me know! Thanks for reading. 🙂
