5 Easy Ways To Be Active On The Weekend

KinAndKodachromeSome of you may remember my previous blog, That Running Girl. I have been running/working out since I was 13. As I get older, I find the value in taking time off from running to prevent injury and burnout. I still try to run once or twice a week, but have been sticking to other types of workouts for the most part. The weekend is my favorite time to work out since I often have more time to do different types of workouts–which are usually more fun than hitting the gym. Here are five of my favorite ways to be active on the weekend.

Try a New Class

During the week, I tend to stick to the gym or spin classes. These options are easy for me because I already have accounts set up and don’t have to fill out new paperwork, take studio tours, etc. However, on the weekends, I love to try out new studios when I have the time to dedicate to learning about the benefits they have to offer. A few studios I want to visit soon are CorePower Yoga and Orangetheory. (If you’ve taken a class at either of these places, let me know what you think!)

Go Hiking

Most people think you can only go hiking if you leave near the mountains, but that’s not the case at all. Even if you live in a mountain-less city like Dallas, there are plenty of places to hike like Oak Cliff Nature Preserve, Trinity River Audubon Center and Cedar Ridge Preserve.

Walk It Out

As a dog mom of three (yes, I have three dogs!), I like to take the weekend to go on extra long walks. On the days it’s nice out, I may take them 3-5 miles and consider it my workout for the day. And of course, they love it too!

Go For a Ride

About a year ago, I went through a huge cycling phase. I’m lucky enough to live in a city with lots of biking trails, so I would take advantage of those and bike for hours at a time. Without even knowing it, I’d end up on the other side of town in no time! It was such a nice break from the gym too.

Find A Friend

One of the most motivating ways to workout is with a friend. Some weekends, my mom and I like to get together for a jog. We go at a comfortable pace and take this time to talk. Not only does this allow us to catch up, but we also feel so much better when we’re done!
