Last weekend, Mark and I decided to spend the long weekend at Lake Tahoe. Neither one of us had been before and we both wanted to go somewhere that we could relax, while still staying active. Lake Tahoe was the perfect place for that. Below are some details from our trip. I hope they help may help if any of you decide to visit this beautiful destination soon!
where to stay
Mark and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort. I can’t say enough about this place. We were in one of the cottages directly in front of the lake and could walk straight from our patio to the beach in two seconds. This made for beautiful sunrises and sunsets and the perfect place to end my runs. 🙂
where to eat
Experiencing new restaurants and foods is one of my favorite things about traveling. Whenever Mark and I travel, we always try to eat at local places that we couldn’t experience anywhere else.
My favorite meal of the trip was at a place called The Log Cabin Caffe. It’s the cutest little breakfast (and lunch) diner that served a wide variety of options. I went with the bagel and lox and have been craving it again ever since!
One of the other places we tried was the Lone Eagle Grille. I highly recommend this restaurant for a romantic dinner at night. And be sure to make a reservation for sunset as the views are beyond spectacular. I ordered the Grilled Organic King Salmon Roulade and split a side of Gruyere Mac & Cheese and Sautéed California Asparagus with Mark.
what to do
If you’re going to visit Lake Tahoe, you have to take in as many amazing views as possible. We made an effort to hike twice while we were there and I still can’t get over how beautiful the lake is from such a high altitude. (Note: the altitude does make it difficult to breathe, so take your time when hiking!)
We also rented a kayak for two hours one afternoon and spent some time exploring the lake. We were lucky to be so close to Hidden Beach and ended up parking our kayaks there for awhile to take in the beauty surrounding us. Truly stunning!
One of my favorite things we did while on the trip was ride the Heavenly gondolas in South Lake Tahoe. I was very hesitant at first since I’ve never ridden in a gondola (let alone one that goes 2.4 miles up a mountain!), but the views at the top were so surreal it was absolutely worth the ride. And at the top of the mountain, there is a fun bar and restaurant where you can relax and breathe in that fresh mountain air.
I hope you all enjoyed reading about my recent trip. I’d love to hear about any fun places you visited in Lake Tahoe!
