lifestyle | My Favorite Holiday Traditions

I love this time of year. Between the cold(ish) weather, lights everywhere and lots of time with family and friends, it’s hard to beat the holidays. Mark and I also both get some extra days off during this time, so we like to do some fun traditions while we have the time. Below are some of my favorite traditions that make the holidays feel even more special!

Some of my best holiday memories revolve around this adorable town square. Ever since I can remember, my family would go the day after Thanksgiving in lieu of Black Friday Shopping. Each year, the town of McKinney goes all out decorating their town square. There are also a number of fun activities to do during that weekend, including carriage rides, Santa and Mrs. Claus, food vendors and tons of shopping!

Every year, Mark and I spend the weekend after Thanksgiving decorating our home for Christmas. I look forward to this every year since it feels like the official kickoff of Christmas. We like to buy a new ornament each year that represents something significant from that year too, which is always fun! And if there’s nothing particularly special from that year, we just find one that’s cute. 🙂

For some reason, I always get the urge to stay up late doing festive things this time of year. One of my favorite things to do is watch holiday-related movies, like Love Actually, Home Alone, The Family Stone, etc. We also love to make hot cocoa and popcorn while we watch! What is your favorite holiday film? I am always looking for suggestions!

There are neighborhoods in pretty much every city notorious for their gorgeous lights. I love grabbing a coffee and driving around listening to Christmas tunes and looking at the lights. If you live in Dallas, there are stunning lights in Highland Park, Interlochen and Deerfield in Plano.

I love taking pictures of our little family. After my dad passed away, I would’ve given anything to have more pictures to look back on. Because of this, I am constantly begging Mark to take pictures wherever we go. While we didn’t get to do it this year, it’s fun to get all dressed up for a nice picture that can be used for your Christmas cards. (Artifact Uprising does a wonderful job on cards. I will be doing a fun post about them in the new year!)

What are some of your favorite traditions? I’d love to hear in the comments section!
