When my team at work was trying to decide what to dress up as this halloween, we knew two things: 1) we wanted it to be cute and 2) we wanted it to be easy. After doing a lot of research online, we found a super cute cactus costume that could be made with only a few things. Plus, who wouldn’t love to wear a sweatshirt to work all day!?
What You Need
• Green Sweatshirt (I bought this one for $8 at Target)
• White pipe cleaners
• Needle + thread
• Pink fake flowers
• Green wire
• Fabric hair tie
The first step in creating your cactus costume is cutting the white pipe cleaner into 4 pieces. To do this, I simply folded the pipe cleaner into fourths, then snipped the curves.
You will then grab the needle and thread and begin sewing the pipe cleaner onto the sweatshirt. To do this, I made sure the pipe cleaner quarters were folded in half again.
Once you’ve sewed on all your pipe cleaners (this took me awhile to do), you will move onto the headband and wristlet portion of the costume.
I pulled 3-4 flowers out for the headband and made sure to include enough stem to secure them to the headband.
I cut the green wire into about a 6″section and tightly secured all of the flowers together.
I then took the excess wire to tie the flowers onto my headband. (Don’t worry about the small stem section, it can be covered up by your hair!)
To complete the wristlet, repeat what was done for the headband. And that’s it! Here is the completed cactus costume. We are planning to wear ours with jeans (mine linked here) and booties.
I’d love to hear what you’re dressing up as for Halloween this year!
